Programs
The scope of HRI’s programs covers most regions of the world and includes such diverse themes as: conflict prevention, minority rights, migration, women and conflict, good governance, reproductive health and information technology.
Current Programs
Currently HRI amasses and indexes a large resource of human rights-based documentation. After creating a periodical index HRI then works with its publishing partner Inter Documentation Company (IDC) to have the journals microfiched and sent to various educational and human rights-centered organizations.
Additionally, HRI is working on developing new projects that reflect the need to strengthen the transfer of knowledge and skills; to bolster the capacity of partner organizations; and to reflect on the development of the intersectionality between human rights and climate change.
Past Programs
The Initiative on Conflict Prevention through Quiet Diplomacy (ICPQD), which ran from 2004 to 2009, undertook the objectives of preventing violent conflict through co-operative problem-solving and quiet diplomatic arrangements within existing regional and sub-regional intergovernmental organizations.
In addition, over a number of years, the Visiting Speakers Series provided a chance for human rights organizations and government officials to attend informative lectures by international experts. Topics such as peace building and minority issues were covered to create a dialogue on current human rights-related issues.
HRI’s International Internship Program has implemented several government-funded internships for young Canadian graduates to work overseas in human rights non-governmental organizations. HRI has placed hundreds of Canadians in locations throughout the world over the years through the Young Professionals International Program, International Youth Internship Program, NetCorps and Canada Corps programs.
